‘The Northern Line’

Very proud to be part of a project to re-imagine the proposed Northern Line, a route proposed to link Europe and North America’s telecommunications networks via undersea cables. This route would have seen cables laid via Orkney and Shetland to the Faroes, Iceland, Greenland, making landfall in Labrador, Canada. The idea was that this route minimised the amount of undersea cable that would need to be laid (even though much of the sea bed between these islands was yet unfathomed). Surveys of the land route and some of the sea bed were made; but the project was eventually overtaken by a proposal for a more southern, almost submerged route.

The project is led by Katherine Wren of Nordic Viola. More details to follow.
