NSP online poetry workshop, Mon 23 June 7.30pm BST

Water is an ambiguous space.  Aboard the boat, far out of sight of land, we are abruptly cut off from our old world.  The sea voyage is dangerous and often catastrophic : from The Odyssey to the wanderings of the ancient immrama, from the early polar explorers to our own everyday crossings from one safe haven to another, the “betwixt and between” is a period of great physical and metaphysical insecurity.  How can we word this sense of dislocation?  In the absence of seamarks, how can we word this unsure space?

In this workshop we will discuss a selection of poems of travel and migration, and try some strategies we might use in our own work to plant our flag  –  if only for the time being.
